Flying
Arts Alliance’s latest exhibition showcasing the artworks of Rosella
Namok recently concluded on 22 May. It was standing room only in the
packed foyer gallery of the Judith Wright Arts Centre for the
exhibition launch of Rosella's artwork, Rosella was the winner of
the First Nations Artist Award category of the 2022 Queensland Regional
Art Awards for her sculptural piece My Place (Sea Green). Flying
Arts acknowledges with gratitude the sponsorship of Mitchell Fine Art
for the First Nations Artist Award.
We
were thrilled that Rosella flew from Cairns to Brisbane and was joined
by Flying Arts’ Cultural Patrons Mr Tim Fairfax AC and Mrs Gina Fairfax
AC, Celia Reordan representing Arts Queensland along with major
sponsors and special guests to launch this exhibition on the 26 April
in the Judith Wright Art Centre.

Dogwood
Crossing Miles is the latest host of Paint the Town the touring
exhibition of the 2021 Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA).
Last
week, Flying Arts representative, Leigh Lynam was invited to present a
floor talk followed by the exhibition’s official opening event.
It was wonderful to hear from two of the artists in the
exhibition, Helen Dennis and Donna Glass sharing insights into their
work.
Now
on display at Dogwood Crossing Miles, 81 Murilla Street, Miles
until 22 July 2023.
Paint The Town: The Touring Exhibition of the 2021

Flying
Arts Alliance was delighted to recently share with audiences the Reframe
exhibition at the Longreach Community Library, from 17 to 28 May.
Showcasing the Flying Arts’ 2022 Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA)
winners, Reframe highlights the award-winning
artworks and the diverse creative talent of artists from across
regional Queensland.
On
Saturday 27 May, as part of the touring exhibition, Rose Rigley the
recipient of the 2022 QRAA ‘Art Educator Award’, delivered a cyanotype
workshop for the local community. Exploring and experimenting
were the order of the day as participants played with the possibilities
of the cyanotype process with lots of beautiful outcomes.

May
has been a whirlwind month for the By Request Program. Our Facilitators
travelled far and wide across Queensland sharing their experience and
skills:
- Skill sharing workshop for Koolkan
Aurukun State School in the far northwest inspired by printmaking
and exploring art as a form of well-being;
- St John Fisher College workshop for
senior students to explore 3D sculpture assemblage using recycled
materials.
- Western Cape College Weipa workshop
inspired by a new subject designed for their senior students relating
to connecting community and art industry opportunities and skill
development.
- Term-time artist residency with
Ipswich Girls Grammar students participating in an extension
program to explore Upcycled wearable art.
- Working with local artists for Torres Strait
Regional Authority on Thursday Island to develop digital media
skills.
- Professional development workshops
with Brisbane Suburban Hub upskilling creatives in selling work;
online promotion.

Last
month, By Request Artist Facilitator Nina Lavarini Dawson, travelled to
North-Western Queensland visiting Aurukun State School to work with
teachers, students and community members sharing lino printmaking and
screen printing skills as well as learning eco-dye making. It was
wonderful to visit these remote schools offering expanded
opportunities, share skills and stories.
Flying
Arts By Request Program is dedicated to working with the Queensland
community to deliver meaningful programs in person or online that meet

stop - Blackall! Reframe, the touring exhibition
of the 2022 Queensland Regional Art Awards continues its regional tour
of Queensland, soon to open in Blackall.

Create a 'Community Quilt' with Dr Karike Ashworth
Delivered
as part of Reframe, the 2022 QRAA ‘Textile Art Award’ winning
artist Dr Karike Ashworth will run a community paper weaving
workshop. Participants will work together collaboratively to
create a single 1m x 1.5m ‘community quilt’ made of shopping receipts
and other paper-based domestic products, highlighting the important
intergenerational role that women have played, and continue to play, in
shaping Blackall’s history.

RAF Quick Response Grants
|
Quick
Response Grants aim to support small arts or cultural projects that
cannot be funded by other means because of their nature or timing. For
example, you may wish to attend a workshop or complete a project within
a certain time frame and cannot access appropriate funding through any
other means. Please note that Quick Response grants are competitive,
and as part of your application, you will need to detail why your
project cannot be funded through other means. This type of grant would
also suit individual professional development.
