From
13 to 15 April on the Easter school holidays, Flying Arts alongside our
partners at the Institute of Modern Art travelled to Rockhampton Museum
of Art to deliver The Visual Field, an arts industry insights program
for teens aged 15 to 18.
The
program was rich and exciting, designed to explore career pathways for
young people interested in creative pursuits and careers in the arts
after school. Hosted by the Rockhampton Museum of Art (RMOA), their
generous staff and new facilities allowed for a dynamic program that
supported participants to feel comfortable and reach their full
potential. Over the three-day program, young people were given the
opportunity to connect with arts professionals of all backgrounds and
career stages as well as participate in exhibition tours, hands-on
workshops and panel discussions. The young people were given real-world
experience in engaging audiences with contemporary art.
Overall
The Visual Field was a highly successful and enriching program. The
students came away inspired and enthusiastic about entering the arts
industry, but also formed relationships with like-minded peers living
locally, but also in the nearby towns of Biloela and Gracemere. It was
wonderful to connect the participants with the staff, exhibitions and
facilitates of the new RMOA to encourage the growth of local
connections.
Flying
Arts is grateful to the staff of IMA and RMOA for their care and
support throughout the program. To read more about The Visual Field at
RMOA visit here.

Recently,
By Request Program facilitators Georgie Pinn and Simon Mee travelled to
Winton to undertake a mini-series of intensive animation drawing and
digital workshops with a small group of creatively dedicated teen
students at the Waltzing Matilda Centre. These workshops provided
students with a rare opportunity to push outside creative boundaries
and gain new knowledge through skill sharing from our talented and
experienced artist facilitators.
We
love to hear feedback from our clients on how our Flying Arts By
Request program have benefited participants and their communities, the
below quote demonstrates the impact our focused custom programs can
offer.
Your workshops were perfect for the youth to be
introduced to and progress their creative digital and drawing skills.
The youth had not before had an opportunity like this and I can see the
transformational impact on their wellbeing and development.
Thank you for encouraging the youth to continue with
their arts practice, demonstrating ways in which you work and
increasing their confidence." Karen Stephens, Waltzing Matilda Centre, Winton.
Our
Flying Arts By Request team is ready to work with you to deliver
meaningful programs in person or online that meet the specific needs of
