The
Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery in Biloela are the current host of Paint
the Town, the touring exhibition of the 2021 Queensland
Regional Art Awards (QRAA).
On
Friday 18 July the event formally opened by Banana Shire Regional
Council Mayor, Cr Nev Ferrier. Flying Arts representative, Program Team
Lead, Madeline Brewer was invited to the opening event where she spoke
to the impact and history of the QRAA.
The
opening event continued across the weekend when on Saturday 19 July
Madeline hosted an Exhibition Floor Talk for gallery visitors. It was
an honour to have Gangulu traditional owner Annette Rutherford give a
Welcome to Country for guests. In addition, this was a great
opportunity to hear about the artists, their artworks and the role the
QRAA plays in promoting the arts across regional and remote Queensland
and the opportunities it can provide for artists.
Paint The Town:
The Touring Exhibition of the 2021 Queensland Regional Art Awards is an
initiative of Flying Arts Alliance in partnership with Museums &
Galleries Queensland. This project is supported by the Queensland
Government through Arts Queensland and proudly sponsored by Holding
Redlich.
If you are in the region, make sure to plan a
visit and enjoy the artwork of 28 talented emerging and established
artists from across regional Queensland. Currently exhibiting at the
Banana Shire Regional Gallery, 62 Valentine Plains Road, Biloela until
Friday 2 September 2022.

Thank
you to all the artists who submitted entries to the 2022 Queensland
Regional Art Awards. The team at Flying Arts are thrilled with the
response and all the amazing entries that have been submitted! We thank
the community for your support of our annual signature event and good

Here

Recently
year 9 & 10 Visual Arts students at St Saviour’s School in
Toowoomba enjoyed a wonderful two day workshop with Artist Simone Eisler
through our By Request Program. Students explored designs for plaster
casting natural forms which they will continue to develop for an
upcoming exhibition.
Our
By Request Program delivers tailored workshops and projects with
communities, schools and organisations in regional and remote
Queensland. Flying Arts are able to connect professional artists both
in person and online with specific needs for tailored workshops and
projects. We believe everyone should have access to high-quality
visual arts training and education, regardless of geographic location.

Creative Curating
What does it take to ‘curate’? How can you make the most of your
artworks, art collection or art space? How can you connect history and
creativity with a local audience?
In
this webinar, esteemed curator and writer Naomi
Evans will explore what it means to curate an
exhibition in a Queensland context. Focussing on small art galleries
and local government spaces, Naomi will help participants understand
the strengths of a diverse art collection or practice, learn approaches
to planning and curating thematically, and break down strategies
for community engagement.

University of Queensland, Australia, and a Masters in Post-war and
Contemporary Art History from Manchester University, England. She has
over 25 years experience working as a curator in museums and galleries
in Australia, and as curator on major public art commissions.

Kubler can provide career advice for artists, arts workers, writers,
editors and those interested in engaging with contemporary art. Use
these 45 minute sessions to discuss matters most relevant to you.

RAF Quick Response Grants - August 2022 Round
|
Quick Response Grants are intended to assist regional artists, arts
organisations, and communities to take up professional or skills
development, or small project opportunities, and aim to support small
arts or cultural projects that cannot be funded by other means because
of their nature or timing.
The
August Quick Response Grant round is now open for applications and closes
11:59pm 31 August 2022. All applicants will be notified
of decisions by 8 September 2022.

Regional Arts Fund Project Grants
|
The
Project Grants stream supports applications that
benefit the community, increase access and participation, and/or
provide direct benefits to artists/arts workers. Project Grants provide
major funding for high-quality arts projects benefiting regional or
remote artists, arts workers, audiences, and communities.
Round 2 of the 2022 RAF Project Grants
Round
2 of the RAF Project Grants is now open for applications from 9am on 5
July 2022. The round closes at 11:59pm on 16 August 2022.
