The
year is now in full swing for Flying Arts, however in light of recent
extreme weather events we acknowledge the devastation and widespread
impacts caused by the current flood disaster across our great State’s
regional communities as well as our neighbours in New South Wales.
We
know there is so much loss and suffering right now but Flying Arts is
here to support artists, artworkers and creative communities in good
times and in bad, in locations near and far.
Flying
Arts has created a list of useful links and resources to assist with
relevant support and services 2022 Flood: resources and links, if we
can assist further please contact us at info@flyingarts.org.au

Take care and stay safe!

In
other recent news, on 25 February, the Governor of Queensland, Her
Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeanette Young PSM, officially opened Paint The Town: The Touring Exhibition of the 2021 Queensland
Regional Art Awards at The Court
House Gallery in Cairns.
Flying
Arts is honoured to welcome the patronage of Her Excellency as Flying
Arts celebrates our 50th Anniversary Year and embarks on a capacity-building
fundraising campaign, ‘Here for 50 Years, Here for 50 More’,
to ensure our future sustainability as a charitable non-profit. Through

Across
the launch weekend, Saturday and Sunday, young artists aged 12 – 18
(and a few, slightly older, but equally enthusiastic
participants) tried their hand at a range of visual arts techniques
during workshops run by exhibiting Paint the Town artists. These
workshops were delivered as part of Flying Arts' initiative, Our Perfect New World
project, thanks to the support of the Queensland Government's Playing
Queensland fund. Aspiring artists learnt stamp making, collage and
watercolour under the expert guidance of artists Darren Blackman,
Bianca Tainsh and Libby Derham.

Bianca
Tainsh, winner of the 2021 QRAA New Media Award, undertook her prize of
a week-long residency at the State Library of Queensland’s innovation
centre, The Edge, in February. Bianca was accommodated for the week at
the beautiful Art Series hotel, The Johnson, in Spring Hill.
“Through the residency I'll be exploring techniques to
create multidimensional and multi-media sculptures, and unusual
embellishments for a series of 2D works. Lake Weyba is the platform
I've chosen for an exploration into how contemporary humans shape a
landscape and its wild inhabitants, both physically and perceptually”
