Mural Development Workshop 20 - 21 July 2024

| Stephanie Peters, the facilitator of the mural workshop quotes; "This Mural design has been a collaborative community effort, beginning with a series of workshops to collect ideas, to having gained valuable insights from ‘The Perspectives’ tour, to finally creating this unique composition.
The use of Iconography is represented through the regions most historic buildings and architecture, they not only show the history of craftsmanship in Charters Towers, but are also a symbol of traditional values and ideals.
The reflections in the water recognise Indigenous cultures through Australian animals inside the shape of a globe, entwining the stories of Australia’s past and present, the water also represents a key factor of the success of the gold mining industry.
The Chinne apple tree leaves imported from China, taking root and spreading across the countryside, represent the people of Charters Towers who come from all over the world, some settling down and others just passing through.
The tesselations in the intricate tile-work show the communities spirit, and connection, it also pays homage to the many mosaic artists of Charters Towers. Every tile joins together to make a grand design, just as everyone comes together to make this place, the best place to be." |

| chain links spiral from point of collapse binding the future unravelling into past threads ripple in tidal flow
hugging my shoulders like it knows me holding me close suspended above flooded marsh and arid plains I swing
lines drawn back by generations of hands
and up I soar coasting on thermal gazes this woven tapestry laid bare beneath
map blanketing contours crisscrossing networks of pathways I follow the loose thread |
