Ron McBurnie

Ron McBurnie is an Australian artist whose career has spanned almost five decades. Working from North Queensland, his work encompasses painting, drawing, printmaking and artists’ books, and is informed by landscape, literature, travel and the history of art. Drawing has remained central to his career: more than a discipline or medium, it has become a way of observing, questioning and understanding the world, informing his paintings, prints and artists’ books alike. McBurnie’s projects often grow gradually through the accumulation of observation, reading, travel, memory and drawing, sometimes returning to particular places over many years as new experiences and associations become part of the work. He has presented extensive solo exhibitions throughout Australia and has participated in major invited and touring exhibitions. His work is represented in significant public, university and regional collections. Alongside his studio practice, McBurnie has contributed to Australian visual culture as an educator, curator, publisher and collaborator on artists’ books and exhibition projects.
