Daniel Qualischefski is a curator, artist and writer based in Gurambilbarra / Townsville. He is Deputy Director at Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts and a newly appointed board member of Public Galleries Queensland, championing contemporary arts practice in regional Queensland. With Umbrella’s Director Kate O’Hara, Daniel co-curated POSTWORLD (touring nationally 2024-2027). He initiated and has managed, in partnership with Townsville City Galleries, six years of the Transitions emerging arts practitioners mentorship program. He was the 2023 recipient of a Museums & Galleries Queensland mentorship at the National Gallery of Australia and a participant in the 2021 QAGOMA Art as Exchange program. Daniel also recently joined the Journal of Australian Ceramics Editorial Advisory Group, and has had work, reviews and writing published including in Art Guide, Artlink and Imprint. Daniel holds a MA Arts and Cultural Management (UniMelb), a BA Creative Arts Honours, and a BA Visual Arts (UniSQ). He was the inaugural 2023 UniSQ School of Creative Arts Alumni Fellow.

Daniel also creates multidisciplinary work under the pseudonym of Danish Quapoor. His work is characterised by sparse compositions, subdued colour palettes and repetitive processes, which unify his ostensibly diverse oeuvre. He has exhibited extensively, including recent solo exhibitions at Rockhampton Museum of Art, Artspace Mackay, Metro Arts and Firstdraft. The artist was the winner of the 2024 Percival Photographic Portrait Prize and has been recognised as a finalist in recent prizes including the Queensland Regional Art Awards, Gosford Art Prize and the North Queensland Ceramic Awards.
