I love to experiment with papier mache, plaster, ceramic, printmaking, acrylic and mixed media creating an explosion of colour, playing with forms and deep metaphoric meaning. In every one of my artworks, behind colours, shapes and textures, you will find an emotional, personal story.
I am inspired by papier mache as a magical transformation, from nothing to something. I like to integrate animal shapes with human faces, as well as using vibrant colours and combinations of patterns from other cultures to express the un-expressed. These sculptures have the objective of making you smile.

Gemma Garcia (Brisbane) has interest in integrating the Spanish culture (her heritage) to her current home Australia. Her work is colourful, and she combines some archetype ideas from distinct cultures. From Spain (Spanish dress patterns like red with white polka dots), bulls, and Australian animals (koalas, kangaroos, etc). Also, some of her artworks are versions of famous Spanish and Latin artists, like Picasso and Frida Kahlo. Mixing animals and human faces, combining ceramic and papier mache. Most of her professional artworks (printmaking, sculptures, panting, mixed media) are faces without mouths as a symbol of her difficulty with the English language, her non-mother language. read more about Gemma here
