This free tour invites young visitors to explore the current Flying Arts exhibition at the Waltzing Matilda Centre, learning gallery etiquette while playing detective to uncover details within the artworks. Together, we’ll compare selected pieces, discussing colour, shape, and subject. Working in teams, students will choose an artwork, identify and describe how it makes them feel, then translate that feeling into a drawing of a landscape from their own town. The tour blends observation, discussion, and creativity, helping students connect gallery experiences to their own sense of place. The tour will be taken by Flying Arts Exhibitions and Programs Manager Alex Grady.
This tour is designed for students, however everyone is welcome.

About the exhibition:
The Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA), established in 2011, celebrate the creativity of artists living across regional Queensland. As Australia’s largest regional art awards program, the QRAA showcases outstanding new work while offering valuable opportunities, including cash prizes, professional development, solo exhibitions, and artist residencies.
The Mervyn Moriarty Landscape Award is a category within the Queensland Regional Art Awards, named in honour of founder Mervyn Moriarty OAM. This exhibition was inaugurated in 2021 as a separate touring exhibition of selected entries.
