Flying Arts Alliance welcomes the announcement of its appointment as the new Regional Program Administrator of the Regional Arts Fund in Queensland.
The Regional Arts Fund (RAF) is an Australian Government program that supports sustainable cultural development in regional and remote communities in Australia. The program is managed by Regional Arts Australia on behalf of the Australian Government and delivered by Regional Program Administrators in each state and territory.
This model recognises that regional arts funding needs vary across different states and territories and takes advantage of the specialist knowledge and insight state and territory regional arts organisations have about their regional arts environment.
Flying Arts will be taking over the running of the RAF from Arts Queensland, who temporarily managed the RAF after Artslink Queensland ceased operations in 2016.
Executive Officer, Kerryanne Farrer, welcomed the announcement, “This is very exciting news! Flying Arts Alliance is committed to a vision of a creative life for all Queenslanders. The opportunity to administer the Regional Arts Fund in Queensland enhances our commitment to the development of artists and building the capacity of creative communities across this vast state by supporting a thriving arts sector. The Regional Arts Fund is very much aligned with this vision, and we are very excited to be able to further support Queensland artists across all art forms”.
Flying Arts Alliance has commenced as Regional Program Administrator effective as of today, 25 July, 2018.

Vast Arts Inc. – Tambo, QLD
Curator and Gallery Management Development program
Funding: $20,000.00
Vast Arts Inc. will produce a program of curatorial and gallery management workshops to be delivered in strategic venues throughout western Queensland. The program will cultivate regional artists, gallery management committees and volunteers to develop professional knowledge and skills to enable regional artists to understand the curatorial process and develop cohesive, well-developed exhibitions
Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival – Gympie, QLD
Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival EXTRAS Program
Funding: $14,000.00
Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival (HOGISFF) is the biggest short film festival in Queensland. This funding will support HOGISFF’s EXTRAS Program, which includes filmmaker discussions and workshops for a diverse audience of students, families and the broader community.
Tropical Arts – Mooroobool, QLD
Real Inclusion – Creatives
Funding: $30,000.00
Tropical Arts Association will stage a large cast community production of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ in Cairns. The project includes a collaboration with Real Inclusion creatives to evaluate the processes, benefits and considerations around inclusive theatre practice.
Mrs Katrina Elliott – Calliope, QLD
Loris Corowa Art Centre
Funding: $29,930.00
This funding will support the development of the Loris Corowa Art Gallery and a 12 month ‘Artz Hub’ program at the Gladstone hospital. The Gallery will engage the community through showing works from local schools, local professional artists and hospital patients. The ‘Artz Hub’ program will offer patients a creative outlet during their stay at the hospital.
Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation – Dunwich
Quandamooka Festival Kunjiel (Corroboree)
Funding: $30,000.00
The Kunjiel (Corroboree) is the culminating event of the three month Quandamooka Festival on North Stradbroke Island. Kunjiel is a gathering of traditional dance groups, a sharing of dance traditions and culture between Quandamooka and other First Nations peoples. Engagement of young people as performers, participants and audience is an important aspect of the project, as is the revitalisation of Indigenous languages and the sharing of Quandamooka culture with the broader community.
Young People Ahead Youth and Community Services Incorporated – Parkside
Healthy Relationships: Can You Relate (CYR)?
Funding: $20,000.00
Over a six week period young people from Mount Isa will be involved in a series of writing, acting and film-making workshops exploring the topic of healthy relationships. The project participants will develop six short films which are to be shown at the Mount Isa Short Film Festival. The aim of the project is to address how forming healthy relationships impacts and decreases domestic violence in our community.
KickArts Contemporary Arts – Cairns City
KickArts Indigenous Merchandising Project
Funding: $30,000.00
KickArts Indigenous Merchandising Project will see the work of ten regional and remote Far North Queensland Indigenous visual artists transformed into high quality, ethical souvenir items. By promoting the production of new work by artists from the region, this project will assist in developing self-determination and regional economic growth.
Mr Benjamin Tupas – Mount Lofty
LIT Futures
Funding: $17,000.00
In conjunction with ‘LIT Festival: Stories In Light’, the LIT Futures project will see the creation of three site-specific light sculptures and delivery of artist-led community workshops. Informed by stories from the Toowoomba region, the workshops will facilitate lantern-making and choreographed movement, and the project will culminate in a night parade and the curation of a night garden space.
