Learn how to build experimental microphones with the artist and musician Ross Manning.
Over the past decade, Manning has developed what could be described as his own world, animated by light and sound. He is an obsessive creator of systems that are driven by their own logic, and of moving objects propelled by electricity and their own kinetic forces. In 2017, the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) organised the first survey exhibition of his practice, Dissonant Rhythms, which is currently touring around Australia.
During the Webinar Manning will demonstrate how to make two types of contact microphones by stripping cable wires, playing with guitar jacks, and other electronics. With these skills you will be able to build own experimental microphone to explore your surroundings, and discover what sounds different objects conduct.
