Explore the world of wearable art and body adornment in this playful hands-on learning experience. This immerse creative process will have you exploring traditional and unconventional methods for sourcing and manipulating materials, problem solving and creation.
Use a wide range of media – from fabric, leather, metal and plastics to natural and found objects, and discover individual and collaborative approaches to wearable art.
Particularly relevant for secondary educators, this workshop will have you walking away with experience in jewellery making techniques, fabric construction and creative reuse and upcycling, as well as suggestions on where to source materials and test out creations on the catwalk. You’ll also have 2-3 experiments to take home.
Overall, you will gain an understanding of wearable art and the inspirational artists of this medium.

Nadine Schmoll is a Brisbane based artist and educator whose practice spans art and science to create wearable art, sculpture and installations. She creates collaborative and sustainable experiences that harness community engagement and participation such as workshops and residencies with school communities to explore plant, animal and human interactions. Manipulating waste materials such as single-use plastics and fabric offcuts encourages dialogue on our consumer choices and profiles waste as a valuable resource for creative reuse.
Nadine holds a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education (Visual Arts). She honed her jewellery making and leathercraft skills while operating a successful accessories label and online store. Nadine has worked with Reverse Garbage Queensland, Inner West Council Sydney, Ballarat Art Gallery, Brisbane City Council, Out of the Box Festival and Moreton Bay Region Libraries to deliver arts learn experiences.
Recent projects include a collaboration with soil and water scientists at the Ecosciences Precinct, Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation (2018); artist residency with Inner West Council, Sydney (2017); and artist residency with Oakleigh State School.
