Regional Arts Fund Community Workshops Overcome Barriers for Regional Artists

Arts practitioners, workers and communities in regional Queensland will have the opportunity to refine their knowledge about the Regional Arts Fund through a series of free community workshops facilitated by Flying Arts Alliance, thanks to strategic project funding from Regional Arts Australia on behalf of the Australian Government.

The strategic project funding will allow staff from Flying Arts Alliance to travel to regional communities across Queensland to provide in-depth insight into the Regional Arts Fund (RAF) and its application process.

Flying Arts CEO Kerryanne Farrer looks forward to the opportunity to engage with regional artists and arts workers on their own home ground, in areas eligible to receive Regional Arts Funding.

“Flying Arts has been contributing to a thriving visual arts sector in Queensland for many years, so we welcome the opportunity to make the Regional Arts Fund more accessible to even more artists and artsworkers in regional Queensland.” she said.

Flying Arts RAF Administrator Amy Cook says the workshops will be a great opportunity to provide insight into how to put together applications that address the fund’s criteria and therefore have greater potential for success when assessed.

“I’m hoping to meet and talk to applicants face to face, and answer the many questions people have about how to make their submissions viable for funding,” she said.

“We really aim to empower artists and artsworkers in regional communities to apply for these grants to support their professional development, projects and other artistic initiatives.”

Flying Arts Alliance CEO Kerryanne Farrer will be presenting information on the RAF at Stage Queensland Venue Managers Conference in Cairns on Tuesday 26 March, IACA conference in Cairns 30 April and 1 May, and Arts Ablaze at Kooralbyn in October.

Event listings for RAF Workshops will be made available on the Flying Arts website once sessions are confirmed.

The Regional Arts Fund (RAF) is an Australian Government program designed to benefit regional and remote arts practitioners, arts workers, audiences and communities. The fund is provided through Regional Arts Australia and is administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance.

Regional Arts Australia is calling for an increase of at least $2 million per year for four years to the fund through its ‘VOTE 1 REGIONAL ARTS’ campaign. This will restore the RAF to its pre-2010 value by lifting the total value of the fund to $22.5 million over four years, beginning in July 2020.

Flying Arts is an arts and cultural development organisation which has been delivering visual arts projects and services to regional and remote Queensland since 1971. The Association has played a significant role in inspiring artists and communities, as well as helping to overcome the impacts of regional isolation and remote living.
