Tour

You are here: Home / Exhibitions / Jabu Birriny (land + sea) / Tour

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are advised that this exhibition contains names, images and works by people who are now deceased.

The Regional Queensland tour of Jabu Birriny (Land + Sea) commenced in 2019 and continued throughout the throes of 2020 into mid -2021. The tour launched at its home, Yarrabah Arts and Cultural Centre, to coincide with QMF Band Festival. The celebrations across the precinct were significant and enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

It toured to 6 venues throughout Queensland over the course of 3 years, with a brief hiatus and everchanging schedule due to the COVID19 pandemic. Flying Arts, with artists from YACP, presented public programs specifically for local indigenous communities, and the wider community to venues where possible. These included weaving workshops, installation workshops for gallery volunteers and cross-cultural community exchange opportunities.

The tour was completed at Tablelands Regional Gallery in Atherton in NAIDOC week 2021. Despite COVID challenges being ongoing, the collective efforts of the Yarrabah artists, the exhibition host venues and the Flying Arts Alliance team continued to honor the legacy of the exhibition.

Yarrabah Arts and Cultural Precinct

When you see the art, that mix of ancient story and more contemporary reactions and responses to the modern history, I think there is something very unique about that
