Media Release: Kerryanne Farrer Steps Down as Flying Arts Executive Officer

After nearly 7 years with Flying Arts, Kerryanne Farrer has recently advised the board of Flying Arts Alliance (FAA) that she will be stepping down as its Executive Officer. Kerryanne said the decision was a difficult one to make but with the organisation celebrating its 50th anniversary year, the timing was right for her to now pursue other opportunities.

“Succession has been very much on my mind as we approached the 50th Anniversary,” said Farrer. “The last 7 years have been the most challenging and rewarding of my professional life. I’m planning to take some time off initially while looking for the next opportunity in arts leadership.”

The board acknowledges and thanks Kerryanne for her invaluable service and leadership of the organisation over the last 7 years, and especially for having steered it through the recent complex and challenging time of Covid-19.

Some of Kerryanne’s key achievements during her tenure at FAA include: securing the administration of the Regional Arts Fund for Queensland; implementing a fully integrated business system upgrade, including a CRM; spearheading the 50th Anniversary project including an online launch event, and an extended reality platform; overseeing the delivery of the 45th Anniversary exhibition project, Colour: Mervyn Moriarty, a retrospective, and regional project of engagement, touring exhibition and curatorial development program – Colour and Response; laying the foundations for First Nation’s artists to interact with the activities and services of the organisation; and nurturing a culture of giving with our partners and sponsor.

Kerryanne leaves a legacy of a culture of care, respect, and collaboration, for our people and our community of artists and for the art form.

The board has appointed Michelle Tuahine as interim acting Executive Officer while the recruitment process for a new Executive Officer is undertaken. Michelle, who has served on the board since 2018, has stepped down from the board to take on the interim acting Executive Officer role and brings a wealth of engagement with the arts, particularly with First Nations artists, as well as an intimate understanding of the goals and work of the organisation from her experience on the Flying Arts board.
