MEDIA RELEASE:
ELEVEN ARTS PROJECTS SUPPORTED IN LATEST ROUND OF THE REGIONAL ARTS FUND QUEENSLAND GRANTS
24 June 2024
With thanks to significant funding from the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund (RAF) Project Grants, eleven new arts projects will take place in regional and remote Queensland over the next twelve months. Flying Arts Alliance Inc. and Regional Arts Australia are pleased to announce the successful recipients of RAF Project Grants in Queensland totalling $226,706.14.
Australian Government Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, congratulated the recipients and their contributions to Australia’s arts scene.
“The Regional Arts Fund not only helps ground-breaking arts projects come to life across Australia, but also helps generate employment in the arts – with this round to create over 500 employment opportunities for artists and arts workers in communities from Alice Springs to Longreach.
“A thriving cultural and creative arts sector is vital for the one third of Australians who live in our regions. We want more Australians to be able to experience and engage with the arts, wherever they live.”
Projects include a Circus Engagement Tour across Goreng Goreng and Wakka Wakka Countries. Harley Mann and a professional ensemble of First Nations artists subcontracted through Circa will bring together remote communities to experience circus as a form of expression, an enjoyable way to move your body, a social space, and a potential future career. The tour will include facilitated circus skills workshops for school-aged children and performances of Harley Mann’s production of ‘The Dry’ in each location.
Successful recipients will deliver strong arts projects in diverse locations across Queensland, including, Bundaberg, Bunya Mountain, Cairns, Cherbourg, Chinchilla, Cooktown, Dirranbandi, Gayndah, Goondiwindi, Kilcoy, Longreach, Maleny, Mitchell, Mossman, Nanango, Rockhampton, Rossville, Toowoomba, Townsville, Tully, Woorabinda, and Wujal Wujal.
Projects cover a wide variety of artforms including Circus, Theatre, Visual Art, Music, Community Arts, Opera and Musical Theatre, and Cross-artform. Projects will deliver a strong focus on community engagement, artistic skills sharing, and creative development, with many opportunities available for local artists and art enthusiasts to engage in quality arts activities, performances, and workshops.
Flying Arts Alliance’s Operations Manager, Paul Thompson stated:
“Flying Arts Alliance received a record number of applications for this round, demonstrating the strong demand to deliver arts projects across regional Queensland. The approved projects span a large geographical area of Queensland, ensuring arts opportunities are being delivered to a diverse audience across this large state.”
“We are pleased to see some of the successful projects are supporting creative recovery efforts to support artists and communities that were impacted by the cyclones and flooding experience earlier this year. We want to thank all who applied for this round of funding, and we are excited to see these successful projects roll out across Queensland.”
