In this webinar, Alex will outline what we mean by ‘the vacuum’ in the context of Art Education, and how developing artists can fall into a pattern of cliched responses.

The webinar will include tips, techniques, and examples of art-making activities that Alex has found successful in breaking students out of the vacuum by guiding them to develop more unique and individualised approaches to art-making.

Alex will conclude by stepping you through a clay-building activity that you could adapt for your own students, modelling how she teaches creative thinking through a process-driven lens.

What to Bring:

Please bring questions to discuss with Alex. Flying Arts also recommends having note-taking materials on hand.

Additional Information

Alex Clark is an Art Educator who has been working with Education Queensland since 2008. In this time, she has worked across diverse schools in rural/remote locations, low socio-economic urban areas, as well as high socio-economic locales. She is currently working at Kenmore State High School in Brisbane.

In particular, she enjoys working with students who may not find traditional success within the school system, but are finding success and a ‘home’ in Art.

Alex sees skill development as foundational to artistic education, and aims to use process and research as the jumping-off point for deeper conceptual development.
