Create your own artist book – put your favourite local bird, flower or tree in the spotlight!

Construct an artist book/assemblages that honor the local Cairns landscape and its inhabitants. This free activity will connect to the birds, flowers and trees from within the Cairns region. We will sketch the Curlew, Sunbird, Rufous Owl and create loose drawings highlighting the shapes of the Fire Wheel Tree, Curtain Fig and the Bottlebrush.

The workshop will include developing basic sculptural techniques of concertina folding, fringing and “wild” tearing to create free standing artworks. Drawing techniques, frottage texture rubbings from leaves and colour mixing will also be explored.

Participants will have an opportunity to create an artwork that highlights the patterns of leaves, trees, bark, flowers, local birds and their feathers.

Additional Information

Rosie Lloyd-Giblett’s environmental art practice seeks to create sensory experiences from within the landscapes she visits. Part of her art process is to combine multiple perspectives within the works. Her paintings, drawings and assemblages seek to include the views of birds, murmurations from within the landscape and the natural textures of the environment. The artist creates portholes and an organic engtanglement with layers of paint, paper and surfaces that one can step into and discover. These in the field notations connect to the landscape which is her muse and constant companion. This creates opportunities to imagine and escape the human world into another.
