LightWaves – Creative Portrait Photography Workshop is aimed at emerging and early-career artists.

Facilitated by Warwick Gow, this free workshop guides artists through a creative portrait workshop utilising DIY methods for different approaches to photography both in studio and outdoors. This two-day workshop includes basics to photography, introductory studio lighting setups and the use of props and DIY materials to capture portraits in a creatively aesthetic way.

The skills learned and work created during the workshop is intended to be utilised as part of a large scale projection project. Successful attendees of the workshop will then be invited to submit up to two images each for potential selection as part of a projection project on the Judith Wright Art Centre exploring regional representation of identity.

Please note: attendees must attend both days to be considered for the Judith Wright Art Centre Facade Project.

Key learnings:

⁃            Processes of adapting work for projection

⁃            Image development and experimentation

⁃            The potential of still and moving image

⁃            What are some of the programs and tools of engagement

⁃            Resolution and size considerations

Additional Information

Your facilitator: Warwick Gow is a Sunshine Coast based artist, art worker and co-founder of LANTANA Space. My arts practice is primarily based in photography and installation, using the portrait to place local fringe culture within arm’s length of the mainstream. Destabilising notions of representation, elevating unique identities and that of the self by hijacking the thin veil of commercialism and elegantly smashing it against a DIY ethic. This ethos carries through into my role as an arts workers as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s Creative Development Team and into my emerging practice as an independent curator in a regional setting.
