Additional Information

Sabrina Toby is a proud Gangulu woman from Central Queensland, now living and creating on Gurambilbarra / Townsville, Wulgurukaba and Bindal Country where she has made multifaceted contributions to the arts and community for almost a decade. With deep roots in her Culture, Sabrina’s creative journey began under the guidance of her aunty (mum), whose teachings laid the foundation for a practice grounded in truth-telling and ancestral knowledge. She later refined her skills through an Honours Degree in Visual Arts, blending traditional techniques with contemporary expression.
Sabrina’s art is a powerful conduit, bridging the richness of Aboriginal culture with the complex legacies of colonialism. Her work explores themes of identity, resilience, and shared history that invites audiences to reflect, honour, and connect. With over two decades of leadership in Aboriginal community organisations, Sabrina’s impact extends far beyond the canvas.
Sabrina serves as an Arts Officer for the Gulf Region with the Regional Arts Services Network North Queensland (RASNNQ). In 2024, she was the Creative Producer for the PUNQ (Pop Up North QLD) Festival, a role she recently concluded to take on a permanent position at Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts as an Arts Officer. In September 2025, she will make her curatorial debut as part of Umbrella and North Australian Festival of the Arts’ (NAFA) program, curating a collaborative exhibition as an extension of the Woven Together Conference (2024). Sabrina Toby’s work is a celebration of culture, community, and continuity. An evolving practice that honours the past while shaping the future of contemporary Aboriginal art.
