Additional Information
Visual Artist and Researcher Anna Guthrie, a visual artist based in Moreton Bay, conducts practice-led research that investigates interdisciplinary methods and employs zines as a means of developing artistic ideas for her ceramic work. As a walking artist, Guthrie traverses both city landscapes and natural environments, engaging with locations through sensory experiences and critical analysis. Her artistic approach is profoundly influenced by her connection to the land, sense of identity, and physical movement, drawing inspiration from her New Zealand Indigenous heritage. For Guthrie, the act of walking serves as a method to contemplate personal and shared histories, examining the interplay between place, body, and materials.
In her artistic practice, Guthrie blends cross media influences with self-publishing techniques. This strategy allows for fluid movement between research, documentation, and artistic creation.
Presently pursuing a Doctorate at the Queensland College of Art & Design (QCAD), Griffith University, Guthrie’s research explores the role of mixed media influences as both a conceptual and pedagogical tool in her contemporary arts practice. Guthrie regularly facilitates creative workshops for artists, educators, and students.
Guthrie’s artistic achievements have been acknowledged through various accolades and nominations, including: The Highly Commended Emerging Artist distinction at the 2023 Queensland Regional Art Awards, selection as a finalist in the Moreton Bay Region Art Prize for 2022, 2023 and 2024 and as a finalist in the Ceramic Arts Qld Siliceous Award in 2024.
Guthrie’s artistic career continues to flourish through her professional attitude to her practice, garnering recognition through exhibitions, funding opportunities, and professional engagements.
