In Conversation with Teddy Horton and Kellie O'Dempsey

Join emerging artist Teddy Horton and Dr Kellie O’Dempsey In Conversation in March. Together they will discuss pathways for emerging artists, the mentoring relationship, AI as an art form and Teddy’s recent success in the 2024 Queensland Regional Arts Awards.

Teddy’s work Stars Align recently won the Emerging Artist Award category of the Queensland Regional Art Awards. This work plays creatively with the ways AI technologies visualise text prompts based on feelings and emotions and subverts traditional cowboy narratives that are typically based on story resolution through violence and retribution.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE:

ABOUT TEDDY HORTON

Teddy Horton is a photographer and digital media artist living and working on the Sunshine Coast. Teddy works at the cutting edge of digital technologies and works at the intersection of photography and AI creating unique videos and still images using a range of generative AI platforms and photographic mediums.

ABOUT KELLIE O’DEMPSEY

Queensland-based creative and producer, Dr Kellie O’Dempsey, works across the arts and cultural sector as a research-based practitioner, educator and project developer. Kellie’s work explores the potential for public and private spaces to generate shared experiences of transformation and wonder. Delivering solo and collaborative projects and programs in both regional and metropolitan areas, from the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) and Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) to Townsville and the Sunshine Coast, Kellie’s approach is diverse, flexible, professional and engaged. Kellie is an active practitioner and engaged educator with vast experience in delivering programs to audiences, students and creatives at various stages of practice and development. Kellie has broad networks and extensive knowledge of the art and design industry. Through her practice, production, collaborations and mentorship she adeptly guides the next creative generation and creates opportunity for creativity and culture to thrive.

Kellie has recently been acting as a mentor for Teddy.
