Free Workshop
Step deeper into the photographic world with a workshop focusing on deep observation and film photography process. You’ll have the opportunity to use 135 and medium format (120) film as well as digital throughout the day. You’ll be guided throughout the workshop in ways to enhance your observational skill and strengthen compositions to achieve more refined photographic outcomes. As a group we’ll discuss ways to tell stories and convey emotion in a single image then put those skills into practice during a photo walk.
After the photo walk around the precinct you’ll learn how to hand process your film. We will use two methods, one traditional and one alternative method. Using the leaves from the eucalyptus tree the gallery is named after Lapunyah (White Gum) to create our own eco-friendly developer. This is a method I uniquely created during my current project on Dungibara Country in my local Somerset region. We’ll also touch on scanning negatives, editing and preparations to share or print your work. Suitable for ages 15 and up.
What to bring

- Naomi will supply a selection of cameras but feel free to bring your own, film or digital. While the class is centered around film, you are welcome to participate with any kind of camera.

Naomi McKenzie works primarily with medium and large format film photography. Her practice centres around both traditional and alternative darkroom and printmaking techniques, which she has refined over twenty years of dedicated exploration.
McKenzie’s work reveals her masterful understanding of light, line and texture whilst highlighting her deep observational skills.
