Explore the concept of Material Thinking and the Poetics of Process and how artists use visual language to express complex ideas and communicate meaning across cultures, time and geography. Brisbane-based artist Glen Skien discusses how visual language, symbol systems and art conventions can express ideas and feelings in images, objects and experiences.
Examine art practices and how to read and interpret artworks of Australian and international artists who innovatively exploit cross-cultural meaning and communication through visual language. You will:
– Understand how poetics informs conceptual development.
– Learn classroom strategies for initiating concepts of Material Thinking.
– Develop reflective writing strategies to assist students in concept development.
