An artist biography should describe the artist, their life experiences as an artist and their stance in the art world. It gives you an insight into who the artist is their background and how they came to be the artist they are today. The biography should be no longer than 150 words in length, and must contain short and precise sentences and paragraphs with an easy to read format. It should include the following information:

Personal Details

This includes basic details such as your date of birth, place of birth, date of arrival to Australia (if applicable).

Education and Training

Post-secondary study or training that has a relationship to the professional development of the artists practice or the artist themselves.

Work Experience

Is experience that is directly related to the artist’s production of artwork, for example, Secondary School Art Teacher or Artist in Residence.

List of Exhibitions

Including both group and individual exhibitions the artist has been involved with. The list must state the name, date and place of the exhibition.

Commissions

Writing who commissioned the artist and the date. Also included is a brief description of the work that was created.

Collections

Collections include major private collectors or organisations that have purchased the artists artwork.

Publications/Reproductions

A review or critique made on the artists work or the artist in an article. It should list the date of publication, the title of the article and the name of the publications.

Memberships

If the artist is part of any major art/artist groups or associations.
